Soho – London
Soho has been at the centre of London’s music industry for decades. Publishers, managers, labels, and producers have based themselves here since the 1950s, and the area is still home to some of the most active creative businesses in the UK. If you are looking for a recording studio in Soho, you are in the right part of the city.
This guide covers what to look for in a Soho recording studio, what Soho Sonic’s W1 studio offers, and how to book a session.
Where is Soho and why does it matter for music?
Soho sits in the heart of central London, bordered by Oxford Street to the north, Charing Cross Road to the east, and Regent Street to the west. Denmark Street, a short walk away, was the original home of London’s music publishers and instrument shops, and the legacy of that industry still shapes the area.
The proximity to labels, management companies, sync agencies, and publishing houses makes Soho a practical base for recording. Sessions that might otherwise require travel across London can happen close to where the creative team is already working.
What to look for in a Soho recording studio
Location and transport. The closer to Oxford Circus or Tottenham Court Road, the easier it is for session musicians, producers, and clients to get there. Check walking times rather than just tube stops.
Room quality. A professional studio needs proper acoustic treatment in both the live room and the control room. Ask whether the studio has a dedicated vocal booth, or whether vocals are recorded in the live room with gobos. Both work, but it affects the sound you get
Equipment. Ask for the microphone list and the preamp chain. Studios running Neve or API preamps and Neumann or AKG microphones are working to a professional standard. A studio that can’t tell you what they use is not worth booking.
Engineer and producer. Most professional studios include an engineer with the booking. For production sessions, ask whether a producer is available. An engineer handles the technical side; a producer helps shape arrangements, develop the sound, and steer the session creatively. The best sessions have both.
Post-production. If your project will need mixing, mastering, or ADR after tracking, check whether the studio can handle it. Working in one facility from tracking through to delivery saves time and keeps the sound consistent.
Recording at Soho Sonic — Great Titchfield Street
Our Soho studio is at 15-19 Great Titchfield Street, W1W 8AZ, four minutes on foot from Oxford Circus. It has been open since 2011 and has been the recording home for sessions ranging from major label singles to independent artist development projects.
The studio has a control room and a live room, with a vocal booth for clean isolation when you need it. The equipment list includes Neve preamps, Neumann U87 and a full condenser microphone selection, a Prophet 5 and Korg synthesisers, and a backline of Fender and Gibson instruments.
An engineer is included with every booking. For artists working on full productions or development projects, a producer is available to work alongside the engineer: helping with arrangements, guiding performances, and making sure the session delivers something worth releasing.

How much does it cost to record in Soho?
The London studio market ranges significantly. Budget rooms in Soho can be as low as £30 to £50 per hour, but these are typically self-operated spaces with basic equipment and no engineer.
Professional studios in central London typically start at £80 to £100 per hour with an engineer included. For full song productions and artist development, a per-project rate usually works out better value: the scope is defined upfront, the price is fixed, and you are not watching the clock.
At Soho Sonic, we offer both. Hourly hire with a four-hour minimum, or a bespoke per-project quote for production and development work. Get in touch and we will talk through which model suits your project.
