3D Printing Records

We at MTN noticed this recent innovation in 3D printing.  It seems that record labels are trying to make a physical comeback.  Vinyl record sales are rising, as collectors are demanding vinyl LPs again.  There is a new method being developed – converting MP3 files into a vinyl record, created with a 3D printer.

The audio quality at the moment is not as good, only one side of the record can be printed and there’s only space for one song.  If the audio quality is worked upon, it might sound like the MP3 (though MP3 is already an inferior quality).  However, this idea has strong potential.  The only way for the record industry to make its comeback is by making physical sales desirable again.  With the technological advancements, this idea can work as bands can sell limited edition collectibles.  It could be a music revolution.
