2014 was a good year for music, with chart topping albums like Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ and Pharrell Williams releasing the happiest song ever. 2014 has also been a good career-launching year, with names such as Sam Smith, Tove Lo and Ariana Grande hitting the big time. So looking forward to 2015, what names have we got to look out for?
Raury
There’s a huge buzz around this 18 year old singer, songwriter, guitarist, and rapper. He’s clearly very talented, writing his first song at 3 years old, and teaching himself to play guitar at age 11. His debut album, ‘Indigo Child’ dropped in August 2014, but we’re expecting big things from him in 2015.
Years and Years
This trio is one to watch out for. Their sound is rooted in 90’s R&B and they hail tlc and Aaliyah as inspiration for their music. We expect to see something big from these guys as winners of BBC Sound of 2015, as last year’s winner Sam Smith has now become something of a household name in the space of a year.
James Bay
This gravelly-voiced songwriter was discovered when a fan uploaded a video of a pub gig onto YouTube. The combination of his soulful voice and brilliant song writing makes for some uplifting, goosebump-inducing songs. He’s gaining a large fan base at alarming speeds, so it looks like it’s only up from here for James.
Rae Morris
Rae had a pretty brilliant 2014, performing with the likes of Clean Bandit and Bombay Bicycle Club at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds festival, but 2015 looks like her year. The 21 year old songstress from Blackpool has already built a celebrity fan base, with Tom Odell and Laura Mvula pegged as fans, and it looks like she will have no problem breaking into the industry in 2015.
