Here at MTN we are always interested in how culture is represented through music. In this Sapporo ad they have used the sound of the traditional Japanese Taiko drums with modern pop music in a way that neatly references the old and the new. Visually they have referenced the drummers and samurais as well.
What we also liked was the use of the speaker cone as a drum for the animated drummer. It’s a great way for Sapporo, which was founded in 1876, to keep themselves relevant to the western audiences, as well as show off some of the Japanese cultural heritage.
